OTPP 733 - Wellness and Health Promotion for Older Adult Description The goal of this 2-week, self-paced, online course is to teach clinicians how to integrate wellness education and physical activity recommendations as well as work to address barriers that prevent older adults from attaining their wellness and fitness goals. Current evidence has shown that older adults typically far fall below recommended levels of physical activities due to barriers such as access to services, systemic attitudes such as ageism and sexism, and limited clinician training on current recommendations. This class will cover theories behind behavior change, the role of the rehabilitation professional in promoting health and wellness, wellness program development, promoting aging in place, and other related topics. At the end of this course, participants will confidently advocate for the best possible outcomes in health promote and wellness for their older adult patients. Upon completion of this course a successful learner will be able to expertly advocate for access to care, work to eliminate barriers, implement a specific and detailed wellness program with their patients, and educate their older adult patients on the important of physical activity. Course participants will integrate knowledge of the role of rehab professionals in health promotion and wellness for older adult patients into their clinical practice through lecture and knowledge assessment.
