Student Support Services

Accessibility Services and Accommodations

The Office of Student Services provides support to students with disabilities requiring accommodations.  Prospective students are encouraged to request a consultation with the designated Accessibility Services Officer prior to admission. All students are encouraged to request accommodations as far in advance of when the accommodation will be required as possible to allow the University to process the request and provide approved accommodations. Program requirements cannot be modified to accommodate a disability.

The following applies to accommodation requests:

  • Disabilities must meet the definition of a disability as defined under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the American with Disabilities Act as amended (ADA). Students are required to submit a recent evaluation from an appropriate and qualified professional that identifies the disability, describes the challenges the disability presents as it relates to the program of study, and a specific recommended accommodation(s).
  • Documentation must contain the name, title, and professional credentials of the evaluator. Evaluation reports should be on letterhead, be typed, dated, and signed, and should include information about what tests and/or records were used to make the determinations. This information is kept confidential unless the student specifically authorizes disclosure.
  • A confidential meeting with the student and a designated Accessibility Services Officer is arranged for a collaborative meeting regarding accommodations.
  • If an accommodation(s) is granted, the Letter of Accommodation is signed by the student and the Disability Officer.
  • Disability accommodations are granted for a single term, a single academic year, or for the duration of the student’s program of study. It is the student’s responsibility to submit a request for an accommodation to be renewed or extended.
  • The student is responsible for providing the Letter of Accommodation to their instructors prior to the start of each course or soon thereafter for which an accommodation applies. If the disability requires accommodations that cannot be managed by an instructor or if the instructor needs assistance or has questions, Accessibility Services will provide guidance to the student and instructor to ensure accommodations are in place.

Transcript Services

The University uses Parchment Transcript Services to expedite the processing of official paper and electronic transcripts. Parchment charges a fee directly to the student. A link is available on the University website and through mySCU, the University’s intranet.

Certain transcript orders may require special handling by the Office of the Registrar. This includes the following:

  • transcripts for students who attended the University prior to 1990
  • students who attended SAMRA University of Oriental Medicine
  • former Chiropractic students requiring a transcript and accompanying licensing documents be sent to the State of California Board of Chiropractic Examiners
  • Massage Therapy students sending transcripts to California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC)
  • students who took continuing education courses
  • students sending transcripts to centralized application services requiring a transcript matching form

For those students whose transcripts require special handling, please contact the Office of the Registrar. A fee will be charged.

Enrollment Verification

The University has authorized Parchment to act as its agent for processing orders of electronic verifications in PDF format. Parchment collects all required fees and forwards the request to the Office of the Registrar, where the verification is produced and released. Parchment uses the highest standards for security and the service is compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Notifications will be sent to your email directly from Parchment indicating the progress of your request for an electronic verification. For currently enrolled students, enrollment verifications will not be processed until the census date for the term has passed, typically day 7 or day 14.

Technology Support Services

The University delivers 24/7 technology support services to students via its partner Synoptek. Students have access to resources and services both on-site and remotely, including the Canvas learning management system, the student intranet (mySCU), educational and instructional technology tools, and more.

Students are required to comply with University policy to be granted and retain access to SCU technology solutions. Students access support for these resources including:

  • Toll-Free Synoptek Support available 24/7: (877) 796-2350
  • Email: customersupport@synoptek.com
  • On-Campus Support 7 days a week during regular business hours: Building C, IT Window

At times, students will be referred to software-specific vendors or to on-campus software-specific experts to address questions or resolve issues.

Parking Services

Parking permits are available to download via mySCU, the University’s intranet. Permits are available at no cost and must be printed and placed inside the vehicle. Vehicles parked in campus parking lots must display the parking permit. Further, given the University’s unique location amidst a residential neighborhood, University policy mandates that all campus community members park on campus.

Student ID

Students may obtain a University-issued photo ID from the Learning Resource Center during regular business hours. The ID must be worn while students are participating in clinical clerkship and is required for admittance to certain classrooms and testing facilities. The ID includes a scanner function that allows the student to print documents from University computer labs and to check out Learning Resource Center materials. It can also be used for discounts offered by participating non-University retailers.

Students pay a fee for lost cards. Students do not pay a fee if a new card is required to process a name change or to replace a broken card.
