PAJP 401 - Professional Practice Seminar Description This course is designed to give the Physician Assistant (PA) student a deeper understanding of the legal responsibilities associated with licensure as a PA who is entering clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding the workings of the legal system, the laws affecting PA clinical practice, the rules and regulations that govern the profession at the state, and when indicated the national level, and the role of state licensing boards, as well as the influence of professional associations, in policymaking. Topics covered will include the history of the PA profession, the PA profession’s role in interprofessional practice, quality improvement, risk management, ethical considerations, HIPAA, electronic medical records, contract negotiation, provider wellness, and burnout prevention.
