PAPP 101 - Pathophysiology 1 Description This course comprehensively presents the physiology and pathology of human skin disorders, diseases of the head, eye, ears, nose, and throat, blood disorders, and brain, infectious, and immunological disorders. This course is one of three courses devoted to the study of the normal physiological processes of various systems followed by the structural and functional changes in diseased cells, tissues, and organs, with introductions to the etiology, pathogenesis, manifestations, and prognoses of various disease processes. Various pathologies are explored in a systematic fashion, beginning with general pathologic concepts, acute and chronic inflammation, an introduction to neoplasia, and the foundations of immunopathology, followed by pathologies of the skin, blood, bone, joints, soft tissues, endocrine system, the head, eyes, ears, nose, and throat, the nervous, skeletal, and muscular systems, and general hemodynamic dysfunction. The bases for clinical tests used to evaluate the dysfunction of each system are discussed. Case histories are examined to correlate content to clinical situations and to introduce the student to rationales for diagnosis and management. Course instruction includes lectures and small group discussions and activities.
