PACR 501-510 - Clinical Rotation - Elective

Description
Clinical Rotations 1-10 are designed to provide the clinical student with supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) that will reinforce medical knowledge gained in the didactic year of the Master of Science: Physician Assistant (MSPA) Program. Supervised clinical practice experiences will allow the clinical student to refine clinical and technical skills through clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving in clinical encounters. The clinical experience will further expose the student to evidence-based medicine through patient care experiences. The clinical experience allows the student to begin to develop into the professional role of the Physician Assistant and work with other members of the interprofessional healthcare team. This course is designed to provide the student the opportunity to achieve program and course learning outcomes under the supervision of a clinical preceptor in the assigned field. The rotation may be conducted in one of the required disciplines: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Women’s Health: Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Behavioral Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Integrative Medicine, or other various disciplines as a Clinical Elective. Based upon the assigned clinical rotation, students will participate in the care of patients across the lifespan including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and/or elderly. Students will also participate in a variety of different aspects of medicine including acute, chronic, emergent, and/or preventative care and in various clinical settings including outpatient, inpatient, operating rooms, and/or emergency departments.

The Clinical Elective SCPE will provide the clinical student with an opportunity to pursue additional study in an area of particular interest. This rotation may be conducted in a variety of medical disciplines, which may include, but is not limited to, Cardiology, Dermatology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Nephrology, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Hematology Oncology, Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Endocrinology, Interventional Radiology, Pediatric Allergy/Immunology, Critical Care, and Urgent Care. Students may also elect to rotate in one of the required disciplines (Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Women’s Health: Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Behavioral Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Integrative Medicine).
