BN 0405 - Biochemical Nutrition This basic nutrition course focuses on the following aspects of human nutrients: chemistry, food sources, bodily storage, mobilization, function, daily requirement, interaction, and signs of deficiency or toxicity. Biochemical mechanisms of the action of nutrients are emphasized. Principles of nutrition, dietary reference intakes, various dietary guidelines, and nutrition facts versus fads are studied. Correlation of nutrition with other basic and clinical sciences, and the role of nutrition in clinical practices are mentioned wherever appropriate. Course instruction includes lectures, classroom exercises, and discussion of practical nutrition topics.
