SCU offers three different sports medicine pathways for students in the Doctor of Chiropractic Program: Sports Medicine Emphasis Selective Track and the Chiropractic Sports Medicine Residency.
Sports Medicine Selective Track
The goal of the Sports Medicine Emphasis (SME) is to introduce students to the world of sports medicine and/or tactical sports medicine. We hope the students’ interest in sports medicine from the SME will lead our SCU graduates to further their education and seek Certification in Added Qualification (CAQ) in chiropractic sports medicine. The Sports Medicine Emphasis (SME) consists of eight threads of sports medicine-specific curriculum. Each thread consists of five 1-unit courses. In addition to the Required thread, SME students must complete two threads of their choice. Other threads or courses may be taken for additional selective hours, subject to policy. Prerequisites for the courses vary.
The eight threads are:
- Sports Chiropractic Concepts
- Clinical Diagnosis to Return to Play
- Strength and Conditioning
- Sideline Skills1
